Governor Strickland Makes Historic Appointment
Columbus – Equality Ohio today offered praise to Governor Elect Ted Strickland for appointing Columbus City Councilwoman Mary Jo Hudson to the position of Director of the Department of Insurance. This marks the first time in Ohio history that an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender person has been appointed to a cabinet level position. “Councilwoman Hudson is supremely qualified for this appointment, and today’s announcement by Governor-Elect Strickland demonstrates that decisions about employment should be made on people’s qualifications, not their sexual orientation or gender identity,” commented Lynne Bowman, Executive Director of Equality Ohio.
